My love of St. Croix fishing rods started during a Lake Erie walleye fishing tournament. One of the prizes I happened to win on my way to a first-place team finish (all thanks to me and not my teammates…) – was a 6 ½ foot, one-piece, medium action St. Croix fishing rod.
That fishing rod became my go to rod for just about every fishing excursion I took. From future walleye tournaments, to skipping school to go bass fishing – that St. Croix fishing rod was my staple.
Seventeen years later and I still have that fishing rod. I have added numerous other St. Croix fishing rods (as well as other specialty fishing rods) to my collection – but it speaks to just how great St. Croix fishing rods are when I’m using them 17 years later.
With how much I enjoy St. Croix fishing rods, it was important for me to come up with a list of the best St. Croix Fishing Rods. This guide should help you pick the right fishing rod for your specific fishing adventures – and will hopefully find you using this same rod numerous years later!

St. Croix Legend Glass Series
The winner of the 2018 ICAST best Freshwater Fishing Rod – the St. Croix Legend Glass Series is the best of the best for freshwater fishing.
There is both a spinning & casting option in this line of rods. All these rods are made from an incredible S-glass blanks, with fuji rod guides, and super comfortable cork grips. I have always preferred cork vs. foam when it comes to durability and comfort.
The St. Croix Legend Glass Rods have a 15-year warranty and are still designed & made in Park Falls, U.S.
The concept behind these rods is to handle crankbaits & any lure designed for moderate action fishing rods.
The St. Croix Legend Glass Series Casting Rods has numerous options when it comes to size and power. They are all moderate action.
The casting rod line will range from 6’10” to 8’8” in length – and will vary from Medium, Medium-Heavy, and Heavy Power Rods.
St. Croix Legend Spinning Rod option is a Medium Powered, Moderate Action fishing rod that is 7’2” in length. If you are a crankbait angler like I am, you are going to love this fishing rod! It was basically made for us crankbait anglers, which is fine by me!
Because of the materials it is made from, how new the design is, and how well they handle crankbaits makes them my #1 recommendation for best St. Croix Fishing Rods.
St. Croix Legend X Fishing Rods
Introduced in 2018, the St. Croix Legend X Fishing Rod series needs to be at the top of anyone’s best fishing rods list – and especially needs to be mentioned when talking about the best St. Croix Fishing Rods.
These rods were designed with what St. Croix calls “Integrated Poly Curve®” technology. This provides a unique design that increases sensitivity, maximizes power and strength, plus reduces weight. It creates a rod that is just incredible.
They are made with top-of-the-line graphite blanks, Fuji guides, cork handles, and has a 15-year transferable warranty. These rods are also designed and handcrafted in Park Falls, U.S.A.

St. Croix Eyecon Fishing rods
The St. Croix Eyecon Fishing Rod series is meant for serious walleye fishermen. They come in mostly spinning rod options, but there is a casting rod option available. They are basically designed to be technique oriented – meaning each type of rod is designed for different walleye fishing techniques.
There are numerous different St. Croix Eyecon Spinning Rods to pick from. They are going to range from 6’3” in length to 8’ in length. The power will vary from medium-light to medium & they come in mostly fast or extra-fast action. There are both 1- & 2-piece rods to select from.
The different walleye fishing techniques that St. Croix says they created these rods for include: vertical jigging, jig-n-rig, big water, snap jig, finesse, riggin’, crankin’ (my personal favorite), slip-n-rig and drift-n-float.
The rod you want to select will vary based on the technique you use. When you are ready to buy, I recommend looking at the chart below, deciding on your option, and doing a quick Amazon search with St. Croix followed by the model number. For example: search St. Croix ECS63MLXF in Amazon and the right rod should pop up for you.
|Model||Length||Power||Action||# of Pieces||Technique|
There is a much smaller selection available for the St. Croix Eyecon Casting Rod Line. In fact, you have one choice – a 7’, medium-heavy, moderate action rod. It is still very effective for walleye fishing.
No matter what rod you pick in this line, these St. Croix rods will be built with the best materials and have that durability you expect from St. Croix fishing rods.

Ranging from small 4’6” ultralight rods to 8’6” light action rods – and everything you can imagine at 6’, 6’6”, 7’, and 7’6” – I can’t stress enough how they have created a rod for all anglers with this line. They come in 1-piece or 2-piece options based on what you prefer as well.

What is really nice is you have about the same selection to pick from in terms of choices in the St. Croix Avid Series Salmon & Steelhead casting rod collection.
I also know it isn’t always easy to find a great carp rod. So, when St. Croix made the St. Croix Avid Series Carp Rod collection, I know a few people had to get excited about that!
There are 3 carp rods to pick from, a 9’6” option and two 12’ options.
Here is a quick link to each of these rods.
From a cost standpoint, these rods are more expensive than the Premier and Triumph lines – but not as expensive as the Legend and Glass rods. If you want that little extra when it comes to sensitivity while still maximizing your rod’s strength, this line of rods is fantastic for you.

I’ll keep it brief instead of trying to explain it all, but these rods get the A+ treatment during the design and handcrafted creation process to make them some of those most sensitive, durable, and strongest rods you can buy.
Of course, these rods are also made from the premium Fuji and cork handle materials you would expect from premier fishing rods, and they also get the special handcrafted treatment in the Park Falls, WI facility. Did I also mention they have a 15-year transferable warranty?
