I love fishing, and these cold Midwest winters really got me thinking about spring and how much fun it is casting out a line. It is also never too early to think about all the necessary fishing gear you need to make those fishing trips as enjoyable as possible!
Having a good portable fishing chair is something I need to invest in again this year. With two younger children that can’t spend a lot of time on the bass boat, I need something that will keep me comfortable – but is also functional for shore fishing.
With that in mind, I have looked at numerous different portable fishing chairs, read reviews, checked out different features, and did a ton of research to bring you our review of the best portable fishing chairs – making it really easy for you to find that perfect chair for your next fishing adventure!

Earth Products Adjustable Fishing Chair
What I really like about the Earth Products Adjustable Fishing Chair is that it was built with fishing in mind. I mean it even has a fishing pole holder built into it!
The design of the chair is very nice. It is a reclining folding chair that has four positions for maximum comfort. The seat and back are also padded heavily to keep you comfortable during those long fishing adventures.
The front legs are adjustable, and they have what are called mud feet (basically a rounded front peg that can be adjusted) – which can create stability on uneven ground. This feature is particularly nice because unless you are sitting on a dock, there is a good chance that bank you are sitting on is going to be uneven.
The frame is made from steel and aluminum and is black powder coated for a sharp look and maximum durability. The seat itself can handle up to 250 pounds in weight and when assembled it is 40 x 19 x 16 inches (HxWxD).
It comes with a shoulder strap that makes it easy to carry, and it does weigh about 10.5 pounds, which is heavier than some of the other portable fishing chairs that are out there.
Other nice features include that pole holder, multiple cup holders, a zippered storage pouch, and sturdy plastic armrests.
This is our number one recommended portable and adjustable fishing chair due to its design, comfort level, durability, and extra features!
KingCamp Folding Quad Chair
The biggest reason we like the KingCamp Folding Quad Chair is because the weight capacity is up to 350 pounds!
There are very few portable fishing chairs that can support that amount of weight comfortably.
The design itself is pretty basic. It folds up easily and the legs lock into place when unfolded – the legs are not adjustable like the Earth Products Fishing Chair, but it literally takes seconds to setup.
The seat and back of the chair are both padded and the seat height is 18.5 inches, which should keep you comfortable. The seating space is actually larger than most other fishing chair options as well.
The frame is made from steel tubes, and should be very durable for you.
It does weigh about 11 pounds, but it does come with a mesh cup holder, which is necessary to contain you fishing beverage of choice.
With a price around $70 – this is a great choice for anyone that is looking for a larger portable fishing chair!
Timber Ridge Aluminum Portable Folding Chair
If you know you are going to be fishing on a dock or relatively flat shoreline area, the Timber Ridge Aluminum Portable Folding Chair would be a very good option for you.
As the name suggests, this fishing chair has a heavy-duty aluminum frame that can support up to 300 pounds.
It also only weighs 9 pounds making it very easy to transport and lighter than our first two recommendations.
The dimensions are 33.7 x 18 x 25 inches, which is a very comfortable size.
It does not have a full back rest/back support, which is different than the first two options. The legs are not adjustable, which is again why we recommend this for dock fishing or fishing in a flatter area.
It does come with its own aluminum tray that locks into place. The tray is great for setting some lures or live bait onto, and the tray also has that all important cup holders for your early morning coffee or afternoon adult beverage.
There are a few different color options you can pick from, and Timber Ridge does have a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty on their products.
The durability, design, and side table make this a very attractive option for fisherman.
Garne T Mini Portable Folding Stool
If you need a chair that is super lightweight because you have some distance to travel to get to your special fishing spot, a portable fishing stool might be the way to go.
We personally like the Garne T Mini Portable Folding Stool.
The big benefit here is this fishing stool is only 1.5 pounds, and it folds down to a 9.8 x 4.7 inch package. This makes it remarkably easy to travel with. Even with that small size, it has a maximum load weight of 220 pounds.
There are a couple of disadvantages to picking this stool over some of the other chairs listed.
One of those disadvantages is when it the stool is unfolded, it is only 10.2 x 10.2 x 9.8 inch (L x W x H) in size. That doesn’t leave you much leg room.
Another disadvantage is the stool doesn’t have any back support. Over long periods of time, I like being able to sit back and have some back support.
A couple more benefits to this product is the nylon fabric that it is made from is very durable, and the steel pipe frame should last a very long time. It is also very affordable, often right around $20 in price which is tough to beat!
So if you need an inexpensive, easy to transport fishing chair – this is a fantastic option!
Timber Ridge Camping Folding Chair
We already looked at the Timber Ridge Aluminum Chair option, but they also make some really good, more traditional portable fishing chairs.
Our top traditional pick from them is the Timber Ridge Camping Folding Chair.
This Timber Ridge option has 5 adjustable backrest positions, so it really provides that back support that most people are looking for.
The back and seat are also fully padded, so you are going to be able to fish in this chair comfortably for long periods of time.
The unfolded dimensions are 22” x 19” x 29” (L x W x H) – and the chair can support up to 300 pounds of weight.
The frame also has adjustable front legs, which again helps provide chair stability when fishing in spots that aren’t perfectly flat.
This chair is the heaviest option that we reviewed, weighing almost 18 pounds – but it also has incredibly positive reviews online!
Just like with the Timber Ridge Aluminum Chair we reviewed, this also comes with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty.
This is very popular choice with many anglers.
Soonyeah Multi-Function Backpack & Foldable Chair with Cooler
This Soonyeah Multi-Fuction Foldable Chair with Cooler is one of the more unique options you can pick when you are looking for the best portable fishing chairs.
What makes this design so unique is the stool frame attaches to the cooler, which also has a strap that allows you to carry the entire unit with you.
The cooler allows you to travel with beverages, food, or whatever you need, and the chair gives you a comfortable place to sit.
The stool size is 16” x 18” x 14” (L x W x H) and is made from strong steel tubes.
The claimed weight limit is 400 pounds. This weight limit seems very high to me, but they do promise a 120-day warranty.
The cooler bag it comes with is 1.8L in size, and yes, it will easily carry a six pack of your favorite beer and much more. If you want, to can separate the stool from the cooler, and only travel with one of them.
The pricing is really good, normally around $35 – and can be a very fun option for you.
Stansport Deluxe Utility Arm Chair
The big thing I like about the Stansport Deluxe Utility Chair is that it was built with fishermen in mind.
It has a fishing pole holder built into it if you get tired of holding your pole and some nice storage units that can hold tackle and other things.
The chair will fold up compactly and is held together by Velcro straps. It has backpack straps on it as well that allow it to be carried hands free, which is nice for those adventure fishermen in the middle of nowhere.
The weight limit is 250 pounds, and like I stated above, the storage features of this product are nice.
It has an insulated cooler pocket that can hold up to 5 canned beverages (I’m going to guess that is mostly for soda) and it has a zippered storage pocket for keys, or wallets, or snacks – whatever you would like to put into it.
It does not have adjustable legs like some of the more heavy-duty fishing chairs do, which is why it is slightly lower on our list. However, if you don’t need adjustable legs, this chair will be a great option – especially if you are looking for a place to store your canned beverages while fishing off the dock!
AMENITIES DEPOT Metal Frame Outdoor Fishing Chair
The AMENITIES DEPOT Metal Frame Outdoor Fishing Chair is a new option for 2018, so there isn’t a lot of online reviews about it yet, but we feel it could be a very nice option for you.
Like the name implies, it is a metal frame that can support up to 220 pounds.
The chair feet can be adjusted, and those chair feet have a really nice rounded design to them for extra stability.
The chair also has the ability to recline, which most anglers will take advantage of…at least I know I would!
The back rest and seat are thickly padded for extra comfort, and the overall design should create a very comfortable fishing experience for you.
A chair cover is also provided for free to help keep it clean when not in use and you are storing this chair in your garage or fishing shed.
Our big selling point with this one is going to be how comfortable it is, and that comfort is the reason we had to add it to our best portable fishing chairs list!
This should be a great choice for you, and if you do decide to purchase this one, please give us some feedback on your experience! We would love to know how well this chair worked for you!
GCI Outdoor Quik-E-Seat
Not everybody is looking for a fancy fishing chair, so if you are looking for something affordable and functional, we recommend the GCI Outdoor Quik-E-Seat.
The size is 27 x 18.2 x 14 inches – and it is a 3-legged stool design.
It is still durable enough to hold up to 250 pounds, and it only weighs 6 pounds, making it incredibly easy to transport and carry around.
To make it even easier to carry around, it comes with a shoulder carry strap!
It isn’t anything fancy, so it does not have high back support, adjustable legs, the ability to recline, or a built-in pole holder (it does have a cup holder since that is very important) – but it does provide you a comfortable, easy to transport, and durable sitting platform!
It is also priced very well, making it one of the more affordable options that you can purchase!
All and all – this is a very basic, but very functional portable fishing chair. If you don’t want to spend big bucks on a new chair, or you are looking for an easy to transport and very light chair that you won’t mind if it gets a little beaten up, this is the right chair for you!
Final Thoughts
It might not seem like the most important piece of fishing equipment, but if you are going to spend a few hours trying to catch that lunker – make sure you are sitting in a comfortable fishing chair.
Hopefully our guide showed you want the advantages and disadvantages of these different fishing chairs were, making it really easy for you to make the right choice.
